The Solano County Coats for kids is a non-profit 501c3 organization. We hold a charity auction every September to raise funds for our cause. This event usually features a breakfast or lunch, and in the past has had the "morning crew" from local radio stations KUIC's, John Young, and KBFK's Jennifer Steel, as well as news anchor, Dan Elliott from NEWS10 in Sacramento hosting our event. Tickets for the event go on sale every August.
This event is for the sole benefit of the children of Solano County. Every year after the money from the auction has been raised, our committee uses their negotiation powers to find the best prices possible for the purchase of brand new coats and jackets. Then the committee relies on lists they receive from the local schools and needy organizations, for the sizes of children in need.
Until the end of October, coats are purchased and delivered. We try to get the coats to the children before the raining season begins. This process is very time consuming, but also very rewarding.
